We sell many types of addressable led strip lights on our website, and sometimes customers ask us “Is there any 24V individually addressable led strip available for sale”. Today we will answer this question in detail, as well as some of the knowledge behind this question about individually addressable 24V led strip.
Simply put, there is no real 24V individually addressable led strip on the market yet, because the form of built-in or external IC control of an LED still mostly occurs in 5V and 12V addressable strip lights. But there are a couple of light strips that can achieve the effect of individually LED programmable. You can also choose to make individually addressable 24V led tape light using connectable individual 24V pixel points.
Ways to Achieve 24V LED Lights Individually Addressable:
- Use those pixel 24V led strip lights controlled by 24V to 5V IC chips (still DC24V input, but each LED light can be programmed separately), such as our DC12-24V individually programmable SK6812 RGB / RGBW led strip.
- DIY addressable 24 volt led light strip using multiple light pixels connected together (the disadvantage is that the size of the pixel dots will not be very small, the advantage is that they can be connected at will and the number of pixel lights can be freely determined).
What Is 24V Individually Addressable LED Strip?
An individual addressable 24 volt led tape light means that the strip is powered by DC24V while each LED is controlled by an IC chip. However, most individually addressable led strips such as the WS2812B or WS2815 are driven by 5V or 12V.
To realize the result that each LED can be individually controlled, either each LED has a built-in IC or an external IC to control one LED, but these two addressable light strips are powered by 5V or 12V also.
The DC12-24V individually programmable SK6812 RGB led strip we mentioned above uses a special design, where the ICs on the PCB circuit board and the ICs inside the LEDs complement each other to achieve a 12V and 24V higher voltage drive and each LED can be individually addressed.
However, this DC12-24V wide-voltage input method designed for individually controllable 24 volt led ribbon is not yet common, so the price is slightly higher at $25.98 USD for one meter, and its compatibility with various professional Arduino and universal programmable led controllers is yet to be confirmed.
24V Voltage to Addressable LED Strip
Most of the addressable 24 volt led lights strips for six lights a cut, that is, six LED lights for a circuit, every six LEDs can be cut, and almost with external digital IC chips, so it can not achieve the effect of individually controllable. And such a cut may limit the flexibility of the user in the actual installation and layout.
We need to know that the more LEDs an IC controls, the fewer IC pixel points you can control. This can produce large color range differences between adjacent LEDs on the strip tape, affecting color uniformity. In some scenarios, this effect may be considered undesirable, especially for applications that require more detailed color control.
If you set the light program for such a 24V led pixel tape for red-green-blue, presented in the strip is the obvious red LED range, green LED range, and blue LED range. This is not the case with individually addressable. You will only see one red LED, one green LED, and one blue LED, with a very smooth transition of light colors. Compared to the two, the lighting effect of individually addressable strips is more flexible and highly customizable.
So how to achieve a subtle addressable LED effect at 24V? In addition to the a little expensive DC12-24V individually programmable SK6812 RGB led strip we mentioned above, we also have a special 3LED-cuttable 24V WS2811 led strip for you to choose from. This will provide a more detailed strip light effect than the usual 6 lights for one IC area. Our 24V addressable COB led strip is also IC controlled every 50 mm (2 inches) for dotless lighting.
Why Choose 24V Individually Addressable LED Strip?
Choosing 24 volt as the working voltage for individually addressable LED strips is usually done to resist voltage drops and to minimize power loss in the wiring. In long run addressable led strip projects, LEDs that are far from the power source will behave differently than those at the beginning if 12V operating voltage is used.
With 24V operating voltage, the length of the digital led strip is much more substantial with normal operating LEDs. That’s why some addressable LED users love 24V, which ensures the stability of pixel LED strips over long wiring distances or large area lighting projects.
The 24-volt provides more adequate voltage compared to lower voltages such as 12-volt and 5-volt, effectively reducing the forward voltage drop from the power supply to the LED strip. This means that even with longer ribbon strip, each part of the digital LED strip is able to receive sufficient voltage to ensure consistent LED performance across the entire strip light.
24V individually addressable led strip is suitable for large area lighting projects that require detailed lighting effects, such as commercial buildings and outdoor lighting. Its advantages in long runs and large-scale layouts make it ideal for large projects. Look forward to the arrival of true 24V individually addressable led strip lights in the future.
